Message "Perhaps what I should have said is that posing as a drifter = posing as a sk8r for the 19-26 year old crowd" is what I was missing I guess. I would agree to that. If someone is doing either for just the looks or to get girls or whatever, then yes, I would agree they are just posing.

But I disagree with, "While skating is very technical and requires a significant skill, the largest majority of those who own skate boards probably fall into your last classification, poseurs. This also applies to drifting"

I was never close to being a professional skater, nor were most of my friends, but I wouldn't call us poseurs. By what you said above, it sounds like you're saying anyone that isn't a full-tilt professional skateboarder is a poseur? We skated to get enjoyment out of skating, not street cred or props or whatever other term you want to use. I guess since I was a skater...wait, was I a poseur since I never entered a single competition?...that I only surrounded myself with other people that skated for enjoyment only, that I find your use of "largest majority" to be grossly inaccurate? I'd agree that our particular environments and experiences made us form differing opinions on the ratio of actual skaters to poseurs.

I would imagine at least a portion of not-professional drifters would do it strictly for pleasure as well, no? So they are poseurs because they like to do something, but either don't have the skill, dedication, connections, or desire to become a paid professional? If we're basing this on experiences, I know more people that actually drift, albeit not professionally, that dress in the same manner that you do. In fact, I would say a bunch of them even carry themselves in a more professional manner at all times than you. But they love drifting just to do it. Some have brand new shiny cars, some have beat-to-shit pieces of crap that they don't care about balling up. They are poseurs?

That's like saying all the guys here that do track days are poseurs because they're not real professional race car drivers.
